Depending on what your background is and of course what yourself and your friends and family are in to is something you must take in to consideration when picking your wedding DJ. Many brides like to steering way away from the ‘corny’ YMCA, ChaCha Slide and not forgetting the Macarena DJ, this is where we step in. Throw a few good tracks at us and we do the leg work for you.
Believe me not all DJ’s are equal, the good ones are worth their weight in gold. Here are some good tips for picking the right one for your wedding.
1. Let them know that your are the client/customer and you are in charge. If you don’t want the DJ to play any of his own records simply tell them, Don’t be afraid of telling them and or putting it in writing. If you want Bob the builder then ask!
2. Be specific about timings of the playlist. E.g.
Ceremony – Prelude Music – Music for the sitting Mothers – Music for the bridesmaid – Recession Music
Reception – Cocktail music – Entrance song – First Dance – Dinner Music – Cake Cutting Song
3. Decide wether to not you’re going to let the DJ take requests. If you would prefer them not to take them remember to tell the guests. From previous experience it can often turn in to a bun fight!
4. The DO NOT PLAY LIST! As i mentioned earlier, YMCA might me your favourite or it could sound like nails on a chalk board. Even “We are family’ but Sister Sledge can be a real awkward moment! Trust me!
5. Get the playlist to the DJ ASAP. The longer you leave it the less of a leg you can stand on if he/she doesn’t play what you would like them too.
Generally do your homework is probably the best advise, check out the DJ’s following on social media. See if they have a good following and set of reviews on Facebook. Recommendations are also key and work brilliantly.
Finally, first impressions is key. Nobody whats a DJ Darren on the microphone saying “Here’s one for the lovers out there”
